first_imgMan Utd midfielder Mata insists good relationship with Mourinhoby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United midfielder Juan Mata insists he has a good relationship with Jose Mourinho.United signed Mata for £40million in 2014 after then Chelsea boss Mourinho made it clear the midfielder did not fit into his plans. Two years later, Mourinho was appointed United manager. Mata told the Daily Mail: “I have no personal bitterness towards him at all.”My football is not perfect for his idea of football. That’s what happens.”I was at Chelsea, player of the year for two years, everything was rosy and then he arrived with a different approach, which I respect because there is not only one approach in football.”So there was a football reason. I take it like it is. I went to United and after some time, he came to United, too.”I feel content and happy with myself because again the easiest decision would have been to leave, knowing his approach and my qualities.”But I didn’t leave and despite what many people said and wrote, I played more than people expected.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

How Do March Madness Bracket Pools Work?

first_imgWith the majority of the United States’ population set to partake in an NCAA Tournament bracket pool or two, we thought we’d give a quick rundown on how these pools work, for those unfamiliar with the concept. An NCAA Tournament bracket pool is a collection of people who are attempting to predict how the tourney will unfold, and, based on the scoring system, one man or woman will emerge as the victor of their respective pool when the tournament concludes.       IG/bmikolajekIG/bmikolajekTo start, you need to enter a pool. If you weren’t invited into one by someone else, you can enter one of the hundreds of public pools open on ESPN, CBS, or Yahoo. Next, you need to fill out your bracket, which is set to be released Sunday night on CBS. There are 67 games to pick – the four First Four games, the 32 Second Round games, the 16 Third Round games, the eight Sweet 16 games, the four Elite Eight games, the two Final Four games and the national championship game. The scoring of the bracket pools can vary depending on what platform you’re using, but, basically, you get a certain amount of points per each contest that you pick correctly. Typically, the amount of points you receive per win increases by round, so correctly picking the national champion will be worth far more points than correctly picking the winner of a Second Round game. If two or more brackets have totaled the same number of points at the end of the NCAA Tournament, there are tiebreakers. Usually, you’ll have to predict the score of the national title game, and the person with the closest score wins the tiebreaker. Now that you’ve got the NCAA Tournament bracket pools down, go out and win yourself some pools!last_img read more

Guardiola hails ruthless City

first_imgPep Guardiola hailed Manchester City’s rampant performance in their 9-0 win over Burton Albion and welcomed the chance to rest his stars for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.Defending champions City’s place in next month’s final is all but secured even before the return leg of the last-four clash after Gabriel Jesus scored four goals in Wednesday’s rout. Kevin De Bruyne, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and Riyad Mahrez also found the net on a miserable night for League One Burton. Guardiola was proud to see his side continue to look for goals despite having the match wrapped up with four at half-time and is now looking forward to giving some members of his squad a break in their hectic schedule.”We are in the final,” the Spaniard told his post-match media conference. “Of course, we have to play the second game [and] we will take it seriously.”Big congratulations to Burton for the tournament they have done, they have beaten teams from the Premier League and Championship, they deserve to be here.”We scored the first goal quickly but the period between the first and second goal was not good, we didn’t control our right side, they had a clear chance at 1-0.”But the difference with Premier League teams is the quality of the players and the rhythm. When you have high intensity for 90 minutes they [drop] and that’s why after the third and fourth goals it was easier.Foden Jesus Silva Manchester City“It was important to take advantage. We didn’t expect to score so many goals but it is good because we are in the final, that’s nice and to come back again means a lot for us.”Every game is important, that is why we are satisfied to get back to Wembley.”He added: “Of course we will play some of the second team and players who don’t play regularly [in the return leg], but in this incredible schedule we have a little bit of a break in that week to prepare for the other competitions.”Nigel Clough was proud of Burton’s performance against the Premier League champions and urged his players not to get too disheartened and instead focus on their incredible run to the last four.”I don’t think we could’ve done too much more with the quality that is out there,” he said. “They’re professional. They never ease off. They don’t just beat you, they annihilate you.”We could do better with one or two but the gulf [in class] of the two teams is far too much to comprehend.”We’re talking about [Manchester] United, Arsenal and Chelsea bridging the gap … we’ve got no chance.”We’ll celebrate, it’s not about tonight: it’s about Burton Albion getting to the semi-final. We’ll probably never be here again and that is how big this achievement is. A lot of clubs have never reached one.”last_img read more

Pochettino dismisses Solskjaer duel talk

first_imgMauricio Pochettino refused to entertain talk of a tactical battle with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, although he felt Tottenham outplayed Manchester United in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat.United took all three points from Wembley following Marcus Rashford’s first-half goal, but Spurs passed up a series of chances after the break, with David de Gea forced to make 11 saves in the visiting goal. After talk in the build-up to the game that the match was an opportunity for Pochettino – linked to the United job – to take on interim Old Trafford boss Solskjaer, the Tottenham manager was asked how he felt he fared. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? But Pochettino insisted that the pair had overseen a “collective” battle and joked that he and Solskjaer would have had to take to the field for an individual duel.”It was Tottenham against Manchester United,” he told his post-match news conference. “I’m not going to talk about [a battle with Solskjaer].”I’m not going to judge his tactics. I think, in the plan you have to play, it’s not ethical to talk about how he is doing or I am doing. You only can talk about the game.”Today, to talk about the game, of course we were better. We dominated the game and we created more chances than them. In the second half, we created 11 shots on target, with 11 saves from the goalkeeper. We deserved a lot more today. pic.twitter.com/VCPw65KYTx— Alderweireld Toby (@AlderweireldTob) January 13, 2019″It was a game and a battle between Tottenham and Manchester United, because if not, we would need to play him against me, one-versus-one on the pitch. Then the next game Fulham against [Claudio] Ranieri, then [Chelsea boss Maurizio] Sarri.”OK, come on. That is football and it’s always about collective things.”United have won five games from five in the Premier League since Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho, yet Pochettino would also not be drawn on improvement in the Red Devils ranks, despite recording a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture earlier this season.”To be honest, when we played there I thought they were very good and I cannot judge or talk about another period under Mourinho,” he said. “I can only judge the performance of them [at Wembley].”I think my feeling is completely different. I am happy after the defeat with the performance. I wasn’t happy with the performance after we won 3-0 there.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.last_img read more

Match Preview Rafa Benitez Newcastle 2018-19Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has made it clear that the FA Cup, for now, is not a priority for his team. The Magpies fielded a weakened team when they first tackled Blackburn at St James’ Park and, after a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at the weekend, they find themselves in the Premier League relegation zone. Survival has to be their top priority, with a vital home encounter against Cardiff City to come at the weekend.“The Premier League is massive. You have £130 million guaranteed if you are there,” Benitez said ahead of the replay. “Everyone is trying to manage the situation.”“You have to be realistic. Who’s in the final of the Carabao Cup? One of the top sides.“And who can be in the final of the FA Cup? Now it’s even worse because the reserve team of one of these teams, they can beat another one.“Who has a chance, a realistic chance? Teams in the middle of the table because they can have a go because they are safe. The other teams, you have to manage it really carefully.”Blackburn Rovers, meanwhile, find themselves in the middle of the Championship table, having positioned themselves on the very fringes of the extensive dogfight for the playoffs.Last weekend they scored twice in the last five minutes to dispatch Millwall, with Joe Nuttall and ex-Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong on target.“We’re playing a Premier League side,” Rovers manager Tony Mowbray said.“The team know how tough the game is going to be but we always believe we can win, particularly at home.“We have a level of belief that we can ask questions and put them on the back foot.”Rovers, though, have lost their last three FA Cup ties against Premier League opponents, with Stoke their last victims in the 2014-15 campaign.last_img read more

While plenty of his teammates and classmates are heading to the beach, McCall decided to try his hand at fishing.A new video from running backs coach Tony Alford shows McCall on his first-ever fishing trip, and he even managed to catch a decent-sized fish. But despite being built like a football player, McCall couldn’t resist letting out a few yelps at the idea of putting his hands on his latest catch. He complains several times about touching it before Alford convinces him to put his thumb in the fish’s mouth: Priceless!! @DemarioMccall went fishing for the 1st time. “It’s gonna bite me!!” @ToteNation pic.twitter.com/xKK1C5eLbu— Coach Tony Alford (@CoachTonyAlford) July 14, 2019McCall has been used only sparingly in his first three years at Ohio State. In 16 games played he has rushed 71 times for 431 yards and four touchdowns. Nearly half of that production came in two games against Rutgers in 2016 and 2017.He has also been deployed on kickoff and punt return duties.Though he may have been buried on the Ohio State depth chart, next season could see even more opportunities for McCall to show the Buckeyes what he’s made of.Enjoy the summer!last_img read more
