Pepperdine’s top-ranked women’s golf team combined for a tournament-best 290 Wednesday to pull out a one-stroke victory at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sammamish, Wash. The Waves overcame a six-shot deficit in the third round to beat Arizona State 891-892 in the 14-school tournament at par-72 Sahalee Country Club. USC shot 293, the second-best team score of the day, to finish third, 18 strokes off the lead. Carlina Llano, who started the day in a tie for 21st, led Pepperdine’s charge, following rounds of 73 and 81 with a 68 to finish fourth at 6-over 222. Leanne Bowditch shot 72 to finish third at 221, and Eileen Vargas shot 72 for a fifth-place 223. USC’s Irene Cho had the best round of the day, a 5-under 67, to finish second at 1-over 217. Arizona State’s Jennifer Osborn, who shot 73, held on for a two-stroke victory in the individual competition. The victory was Pepperdine’s second this season. MEN’S SOCCER: LMU PLAYS WEST VIRGINIA TO A DRAW Loyola Marymount couldn’t hold off West Virginia on Wednesday and settled for a 1-1 draw in a nonconference men’s soccer game at Morgantown, W.Va. Trini Gomez’s fourth goal of the season, from Bo Miller’s pass, gave the Lions (4-4-3) a 72nd-minute lead, but Dan Stratford’s goal in the 88th minute, on a shot from outside the LMU box, pulled West Virginia (8-4-2) even. Neither team scored in 30 minutes of overtime. Redlands 6, Occidental 0: Bryan Fakkima scored a hat trick and Kody Andrew added two goals as Redlands routed visiting Occidental in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer clash. Alex Parker also scored for Redlands, which scored five minutes apart for a 2-0 lead in the first half, then three goals in an 11-minute span early in the second half to pull away.
