Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Play Prince, James Brown At Funky Knicks Halftime Show At MSG [Pro-Shot]

first_imgOn Friday evening, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong brought their upbeat funk-jam grooves to the hallowed Madison Square Garden, where they provided the halftime entertainment during the New York Knicks‘ game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Baltimore-native quartet took the opportunity to honor a pair of funk legends during their roughly 7-minute performance, in addition to showcasing some of their own funky original material. After an onscreen teaser during the game’s second quarter (“Fun In Funk”), the band began their brief halftime show medley with Pizazz track “Somethin’ For Ya”. From there, they dove straight into Prince‘s “1999”, which the band has covered a handful of times, most notably as part of a “1999” > “2001” medley at 2016’s Domefest. Guitarist/vocalist Scrambled Greg even threw in an appropriate little shout-out to the “Knicks in ’99”, the last year the team made the NBA Finals. The classic Prince track then segued into Pigeons favorite “FU”, during which the venue’s video staff took the liberty of throwing up colorful block letters to help the band spell out the lyrics (“FU…NK…”), before finally making a landing in “I Feel Good (I Got You)” by James Brown.Below, you can enjoy pro-shot footage of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s Knicks halftime performance as it appeared on the Madison Square Garden jumbotron on Friday evening:Pigeons Playing Ping Pong – Knicks Halftime Show [Full Pro-Shot] – Madison Square Garden – 3/23/18[Video: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong]Setlist: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong | NY Knicks Halftime Show | Madison Square Garden | 3/23/1890 second 2nd QTR teaser: Fun in FunkHalftime: Somethin’ For Ya> 1999> FU> I Got You(I feel good)You can check out a full list of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s upcoming tour dates below, and tickets for the upcoming shows are available via the band’s website.Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Upcoming Tour Dates:3/30 & 3/31 – Washington, D.C. – 9:30 Club4/12 – Providence, RI – Fete Ballroom4/13 – Burlington, VT – Higher Ground4/14 & 4/15 – Portland, ME – Port City Music Hall4/19 – 21 – Live Oak, FL – Wanee Festival4/20 – Charleston, SC – Pour House!4/24 – Baton Rouge, LA – Varsity Theater4/25 – Jackson, MS – Duling Hall4/26 – Birmingham, AL – Saturn4/27 – Athens, GA – Georgia Theatre4/28 – Raleigh, NC – Lincoln Theater5/03 – Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Bowl5/04 – Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Bowl5/05 – Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Bowl5/17 – 19 – Bedford, PA – Domefest6/07-10 – Manchester, TN – Bonnaroo6/5-9 — Quincy, CA – High Sierra Music Festival7/12 — Morrison, CO – Red Rocks Amphitheatre^^719 – 22 — Scranton, PA —Peach Music Festival7/18 — Burlington, VT — Tumble Down 20188/2 – 4 — Thornville, OH — Werk Out Music & Arts Festival8/23 – 26 Arlington, VA — Lockn’ Festival* w/ Flamingosis, Cycles** w/ Broccoli Samurai^^ w/ Juice% w/ Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers^ opening for moe.View All Tour Dateslast_img read more

Dominican Republic: Authorities seize 1,000 kilos of cocaine

first_img SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Authorities reported on Aug. 21 the seizure of 1,000 kilos (2,205 pounds) of cocaine, with the assistance of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. The Dominican National Drug Control Bureau (DNCD) said four Colombians were arrested in the operation, part of Operation Martillo, an international initiative that gathers Latin American, Western Hemisphere and European nations and the United States in an effort to curtail illicit trafficking routes on both coasts of the Central American isthmus. “We are working together with the DEA on all the information found in possession of the four Colombians, with the goal of locating the people who were going to receive the 40 packages, each containing 25 packets,” a statement released by the DNCD said. According to the DNCD, the narcotics were carried aboard a speedboat bound from South America to the United States. After the alleged narco-traffickers were arrested, authorities transported them to Puerto Rico. The investigation is trying to establish whether the four Colombians had any accomplices. The seizure is the second largest of the year. In March, authorities seized1,282.5 kilos (2,828 pounds) of cocaine in the town of Juan Dolio, 28 miles east of Santo Domingo.
