Sweden to get another taste of India in 2017

first_imgNot many of us have woken up to the fact that next year is the 70th anniversary of our independence, but the City of Stockholm has already set in motion preparations for a week of celebrating Indian culture and cuisine starting on August 15, 2017. For the past 11 years, the Stockholm Culture Festival, explained its Project Manager, Philippa Staffas, who was here on a research trip, has been bringing Europe to the Swedish capital, but next year, India will be the first Asian theme country to be showcased in this hugely popular event.Also read: Drama on a plate: These bomb pizzas are just amazingHappily, the festival coincides with India’s milestone year. This year’s theme country is France; it was Britain last year. Fortunately for the City of Stockholm, it has a passionate resource in Sanjoo Malhotra, who, with his Namaste Stockholm and India Unlimited initiatives in partnership with the Embassy of India, has been making news in the country he made his home a little less than two decades ago.Also read: You won’t know what you’re missing out on till you try this bharwa mirchi recipe This May, the one-day Namaste Stockholm programme, held, like last year, in the sprawling King’s Garden, opened with 2,000 yoga enthusiasts going through their paces from 8:30 to 11 a.m. It kick-started a busy day featuring 40 different dance performances, starting with one by Astad Deboo, and 26 food outlets, including five trucks, serving regional cuisine, giving locals an opportunity to dig into innovations such as tacos with fish moilee and mutton curry burgers.advertisementlast_img read more
